3 Ways To Protect Your Wood Floors
Wood flooring can be really beautiful. Depending on what kind of flooring you decide to put in, it can be pretty expensive. That means once it has been installed, you want to make sure that you are doing everything you can to make sure that the floor stays as beautiful as possible. There are a number of things that you can do to make sure that happens.
Rugs
One thing that you can do is to put throw rugs in high traffic areas. For example, you can put a throw rug in places like your entryway. That is probably the highest-trafficked area in your entire house. Plus, all the mud, sand, dirt, and debris that comes into your house on people's shoes can get caught on the rug and not get tracked through your house, or across your floor. Not only does the rug catch all that stuff, but it will also protect your floor in that area and keep it from getting scratched up.
Ban Shoes
Another thing that you can do to keep your wood floors looking good is to ban shoes being worn in your house. Place a shelf near your doorway so that people can place their shoes there. Taking off shoes will help to keep any debris from damaging your floors, but it will also keep your shoes from leaving dents and dings on your floors. Sneakers may not cause any dents or dings, but if you wear hard-soled shoes in your house, you are more at risk of damaging your floors.
Furniture Pads
You can also put little felt pads on all the feet of your furniture. The felt pads will let your furniture slide across the floor easily, but more importantly, it will pad the feet. That will keep them from causing scratches and dents on your floor. There are also plastic disks that you could put under the feet of your furniture that will do the same thing but are often a little bigger, and something that you set the furniture leg in, instead of affixing to the feet.
Wooden floors can be very beautiful. They can also be very expensive, depending on what kind of flooring you use, what pattern you choose to use, and how much square footage you are going to need the wood to cover. No matter how much you spent on your wood floors, you want to do everything you can to keep them looking good.
